Canada’s Mayors Call for national leadership on housing

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Big City Mayors’ Caucus announced their principles for the National Housing Strategy at the Toronto Housing Summit which brought together federal, provincial and municipal leaders and over 200 representatives of non-profit, co-operative and private sector organizations, as well as residents and housing experts.

The Winnipeg Free Press has published an op-ed regarding housing policy written by Clark Brownlee and Laura Rempel of the Coalition.  Entitled “Ask_them_about_Manitoba’s_Poorly_housed” the commentary highlights housing issues for low income Manitobans and political party responses to community concerns regarding low income housing heard during the provincial election campaign.

Winnipeg Street Census 2015 Report now available

The Winnipeg Street Census was conducted in Winnipeg on October 25/26th. Almost 300 volunteers met with a huge variety of people living in emergency shelters, temporarily with friends and relatives, under bridges and at other temporary spaces.  Here is the link for more information on the census and the final report. http://streetcensuswpg.ca/index.php/homelessness-in-winnipeg/
