This fall, the second reading of Bill 26 is expected to take place when members of the provincial legislature begin meeting again. Introduced by the Honourable Lisa Naylor, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, the bill proposes new limits to reduce above-guideline rent increases (AGIs) in Manitoba.
These changes would help ensure that Manitoba renters have stable, secure homes, regardless of the type of housing they live in.
On Thursday, October 3, the Right to Housing Coalition will meet with Minister Naylor to express our support for the bill and discuss our recommendations to strengthen Bill 26. Rooted in our Social Housing Action Plan for Manitoba, the coalition is pushing for additional amendments to better protect Manitoba tenants.
Share your support and email Minister Naylor today! We’ve drafted an email (see further below) to help you show solidarity for our recommendations to strengthen Bill 26 and prevent rent hikes for all Manitoba tenants.
Have your say! Following the second reading, Bill 26 will move to the committee stage, providing the public with an opportunity to offer direct input into the bill. You can visit this link and register to present to the committee today. The Right to Housing Coalition will be hosting an informative Zoom session for those planning to present to the committee so we can develop a coordinated message. Stay tuned for more details.

Dear Minister Naylor:
Thank you for introducing Bill 26 to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. I am writing to express my support of the bill. Tenant protections and housing affordability are a concern for Manitobans. Bill 26 is an important step toward protecting tenants against above guideline rent increases (AGIs).
I am also writing to request that you consider including the recommendations presented by the Right to Housing Coalition as additional amendments within Bill 26. These amendments would strengthen tenant protections and housing affordability for Manitobans. I believe that your office can make the difference for many Manitoban households struggling to maintain affordable housing.
I appreciate your attention on this matter and look forward to the passing of Bill 26.
Sincerely,
